The International Centre 4 Prince Studies welcomes proposals on Prince’s vast output related to the moving image, including but not limited to: film, music video, concert recordings, television appearances, and interviews.  The conference aims to continue the advancement of Prince academic scholarship and to advance the study of Prince’s moving image presence, an under-explored aspect of his artistic output. A peer-reviewed, academic publication of select presentations from the conference is an anticipated outcome.

The conference will also include a special session on the 40th anniversary of Prince’s debut film Purple Rain (1984); therefore, proposals related to Purple Rain are welcome. The conference seeks to explore all aspects of Prince on screen, and proposals on his other work are highly encouraged.

We welcome proposals from scholars and fans in the fields of popular music studies, sound studies, race/ethnic studies, gender studies, cultural studies, television studies, celebrity studies, film studies, visual arts, performance studies, digital and social media, and related disciplines.

Submission guidelines:

Proposals are invited for 15-minute papers on, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Prince and fashion on screen.

  • Prince and media representations on screen.
