20th – 22nd October 2016, Madrid

University Complutense of Madrid is pleased to announce the fourteenth Conference of the Iberian Society for Ethnomusicology Studies (SIBE), which will be held from the 20th to the 22nd of October in Madrid, Spain. Researchers are welcome to present abstracts, proposals, and posters to be part of this exciting conference that will focus around the concepts of place, itineraries and cultural contexts.

The relation between music and place has been a key approach in contemporary ethnomusicology. In this conference one of the main aims is to focus on music places, understanding this concept of place in a wider view. For that reason, questions of identity associated with appropriations and displacements are of relevance, as is the idea of music as a producer of dynamics of place and cultural exchanges.

Displacement processes are of special interest, as are the reception of music in different venues associated with audiences and their behaviours, the reinvention of tradition in transcultural processes, mediation through technological and virtual spaces, and the representation of political, ideological and religious contexts through music.

Proposals

From today proposals are invited for paper presentations, round-tables, and posters in printed and audiovisual format.

• Proposals should include the title and type of presentation (paper, poster…) the name and surnames of the presenter(s), official affiliations (university or research institution), contact details (e-mail addresses, contact number) and abstract (c.300 words).
• Proposals should be sent before 15th April, 2016 following the format that can be found at:

• Proposals and papers are allowed in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
• The Committee will evaluate the proposals and will inform the authors of the outcome before 1st June 2016. It is possible to present collective papers or round tables organised previously by three or four researchers under a common topic/concept. The proposal should be submitted by a coordinator and should include a general title and abstract (c. 500 words) for all the presentations and the names of the researchers who are going to be involved in the panel.

Registration will open on the 1st June 2016. The prices for registration are:

• Members of SIBE: 40 €
• Non-members of SIBE: 50 €
• Students and unemployed workers: 20 €
