Celebrating global diversity, the Long Beach Indie International Film, Media and Music Festival (August 30-September 3, 2017) is looking for scholars, journalists, and entertainment industry professionals to bring their intellect, art, and energy this year’s Film, Media, and Music Conference.
We invite individual papers and full panels representing any topic (e.g. theory, production, history, criticism, preservation, etc.) related to film, television, gaming, music, virtual and augmented reality, mass communication, digital media, or the entertainment and music industries broadly defined.
We are also issuing a special call for papers interrogating or celebrating the following themes and topics broadly defined:
- Gender, Race, and the Entertainment Industry
- Examinations and Interpretations of the film Moonlight
- Black Music: Past, Present, and Future
- Latin Music: Past, Present, and Future
- Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality: Past, Present, and Future
- Donald Trump and his Relationship to Social Media and/or the Media.
Sessions are 75 minutes long and include 15 minutes per paper (3 total) and 30 minutes of discussion. Chairs can serve as a presenter on the panel.

Celebrating global diversity, Long Beach Indie is a 5-day global entertainment experience that includes the LBI International Film Festival, LBI Film, Media, and Music Conference, and LBI College and Career Fair exposing urban youth to careers in arts, entertainment, and digital media. Since 2014 Long Beach Indie has drawn more than 8000 attendees, screened more than 500 films from 50+ countries, and drawn Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, Directors Guild of America, ALMA and NAACP Image Award winners and nominees as presenters.
Long Beach Indie takes place August 30-September, 2017 at the Cinemark at the Pike Theaters, Hilton Long Beach Hotel, and high-end venues throughout downtown Long Beach, California.
