Institute of Musical Research Conference Grants

Posted: April 26th, 2017 | Filed under: News | Comments Off on Institute of Musical Research Conference Grants

The Institute of Musical Research invites applications to organise a one-day workshop, study day, or conference at Senate House in central London during the 2017–18 academic year. Grants of up to £400 are available, and the IMR will also provide a room with a capacity of 70-80 for one day.

There are no restrictions on the format or subject matter, but the event should address *an urgent or contemporary issue* within the field of music studies and include a keynote address by a suitably qualified speaker. The IMR encourages applications that focus on broad or pressing questions within the discipline, whether content-related or methodological, rather than narrow topics of more specialised interest. It also welcomes proposals that promise to promote conversations between disciplines or sub-disciplines and/or to offer alternatives to a standard conference format.

IMR funds should not be allocated for speaker fees. Suitable costs include travel expenses for the keynote speaker and for students and scholars without alternative sources of funding, and up to £100 may be spent on refreshments. Given the IMR’s mission, the involvement of early career researchers in organisational and/or speaking roles is encouraged. Applications that seek to attract additional funding from other sources and/or expand into a larger event would be particularly welcome.

Application process

Applicants should send the following documents to [email protected]:

  1. an outline and justification for the proposed event, including the name of the likely keynote speaker
  2. an indicative budget, including a breakdown of costs
  3. a brief CV
  4. details of any contribution from another institution or funding body

The deadline for applications is Sunday 23 July 2017. Applicants will be notified of the outcome in August.
