For the first time in ten years, the Benelux Branch of IASPM is proud to announce a conference to be held on Friday April 15th 2011, possibly the conference will be extended with an extra day on Thursday April 14th 2011. The conference will take place at the Inholland University of Applied Sciences, Haarlem and will be organised in collaboration with International Music Management students. We want to invite students, academics, as well as musicians, music journalists and other music practitioners to submit a paper proposal and participate in the conference. All papers will be in English.
The conference intends to bring together the practical and theoretical side of popular music, therefore papers that focus on practice as well as papers that reflect theoretically on these practices will be selected.
For papers with a focus on music practice we particularly welcome practical perspectives regarding developments in the music industry and new business models, as well as perspectives on social media participation, online music writing, and online music marketing.
For papers with a theoretical focus we welcome papers from the areas of cultural studies, musicology, sociology, psychology, or any other relevant area that has a link with music-related practices. Possible research subjects include, but are not limited to, music perception and cognition, functions of musical listening, music cultures and social media, social and national identities.
Haarlem is located at 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station and 30 minutes from Schiphol Airport.
