CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES - 11/10/2007

Northeastern University, a dynamic urban institution located in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts, invites nominations and applications for the position of Chairperson of its Department of Communication Studies. The position will begin July 1, 2008.

The Department of Communication Studies seeks a vibrant and visionary leader with an ability and willingness to guide and enrich the intellectual life of our Department and University. We seek a Chairperson that will lead by example, with the energy to build innovative new programs, facilitate faculty development, and effectively represent the department's interests within the College, University, and greater Boston community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fair governance and decision-making, excellence in teaching, proven interdisciplinary and translational research, and the ability to achieve and maintain a diverse educational environment. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Communication Studies or related field with documented administrative experience, and a record of achievement that would warrant tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Northeastern University particularly welcomes applications from women, minorities, and persons with disabilities. 

With approximately 600 undergraduate students, the Department of Communication Studies is one of the largest majors in the College of Arts and Sciences. It currently consists of 13 full-time faculty members who apply humanistic, critical-cultural approaches in the areas of media studies, rhetoric and critical theory, and organizational communication. Currently we offer a B.A. in Communication Studies and a combined B.A./M.A in Communication, Media, and Cultural Studies; beginning in September 2008 we will offer an M.A. in Communication, Media, and Cultural Studies.
